Decide what you want to make
Small organisers, replacement parts and display pieces can demand different materials and tolerances. Choose a few realistic first projects and use them to compare printers, rather than buying solely on headline speed.
Give the printer a proper home
Check the manufacturer's guidance on clearance, ventilation, temperature and electrical use. Choose a stable surface and keep moving and heated parts away from children and pets. Material safety guidance should inform where you print.
Budget for the essentials
Allow for compatible filament, storage and basic finishing tools. Read the printer manual before choosing cleaning products or replacement parts. Buying a large accessory bundle at the start can leave you with tools you never use.
Learn with a small print
Start with the manufacturer's recommended settings and a simple test model. Change one setting at a time, and keep notes. A repeatable process is more useful than a drawer full of failed prints.
Build your shortlist
Check the exact product specifications, compatibility and current price before making a decision.
